What is Troopmaster Times and who is the person behind it?

Troopmaster Times is a content-driven brand designed to educate, inspire, and support scouts, troop leaders, and outdoor enthusiasts. Through a newsletter, website, and YouTube video series, it will focus on key skills such as rope work, outdoor cooking, orienteering, First Aid, and leadership development. Additionally, it will provide a practical guide for troop leaders to build exciting, boy-focused programs that retain engagement and foster growth.

Meet the founder of Troopmaster Times, Jake Wattenphul.

Hi, I’m Jake Wattenphul, a husband, father of four, and lifelong lover of the outdoors based in Minnesota. I currently serve as the Troopmaster of Trail Life Troop MN3368, and formerly led Troop MN0619 in Bloomington, MN. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to walk alongside boys and families as they grow in character, leadership, and faith through faith-based character building and outdoor adventure.

Whether I’m paddling a canoe, riding my motorcycle, or picking a tune on my ukulele or guitar, I find joy in experiencing and sharing the beauty of God’s creation. I’m passionate about authentic male leadership —and I’m always looking for new ways to engage with my local, regional, and national community to live boldly, serve faithfully, and explore wild places with purpose.
